After 7 years as a member of the British Dental Association Good Practice Scheme, Romsey Dental Care was congratulated by the President of the BDA at a special awards ceremony at the BDA conference in Manchester.
Romsey Dental Care’s Clinical Manager Donna Whettingsteel was delighted to qualify recently as an Oral Health Educator. Donna said ‘ the course covers every aspect of oral health – this now means that I am qualified to offer our patients a dedicated appointment to focus on their cleaning techniques, plus give them advice on diet and other factors which affect the health of their teeth and gums.’
Qualified Dental Nurse Louise Sleep from Romsey Dental Care in Station Road recently gained her Certificate of Competency in Dental Impressions. Louise said ‘It’s great to have this additional skill, as I can now help the dentists by taking impressions for mouthguards, bleaching trays and study models. We sponsor Romsey Rugby Club too and encourage the players to wear a proper professional mouthguard.’
In June dental nurse Louise Sleep found out that she had gained her Radiography Qualification with an amazing 90% in the exam – alongside our clinical manager Donna she is now qualified to take X-rays for patients. All our staff regularly attend training courses so that we can keep our advice and care to the highest standards.
Staff at Romsey Dental Care in Station Road are celebrating an excellent report from their inspection by the Care Quality Commission, the government body which now monitors standards in dental practices as well as care homes. The practice is one of the first in the area to have the rigorous four and a half hour inspection and practice owner, Samantha Price says that the team were delighted with the results, commenting:
Theresa Ball and Stephanie Carter represented the practice at the Women in Business Awards, where we were delighted to be runner up in the Green Business Award which recognises our environmental ethos. The judge mentioned our donation of two dental chairs and associated equipment to Dentaid in 2008 when we refurbished, as an example of recycling and also sustainable help for the developing world.
Senior Dental Nurse Donna Whettingsteel from Romsey Dental Care, is delighted to gain her Certificate in Dental Radiography. This means she can take X-rays for patients using the practices state-of-the-art digital Xray equipment which displays the images instantly onto the chairside screen.
Romsey girl Megan Pack was delighted to hear that she has qualified as a dental nurse with an NVQ Level 3 in Dental Nursing. Megan, who is now 19, first joined Romsey Dental Care in Station Road at age 16, for work experience. Megan said ‘I knew straight away that dental nursing was the career for me and I really enjoy the job. We do a lot of cosmetic dentistry and it is great to see the smile on the patient’s face when they look in the mirror!’ Practice owner Samantha Price said ‘ I was so impressed with Megan’s dedication and commitment at such a young age that when a vacancy for a trainee nurse came up I was delighted to be able to offer it to her.’ ‘Megan is a natural as a dental nurse and has developed so well in all her skills throughout the 2 years of her training.’
Dental Nurse Laura McGregor from Romsey Dental Care in Station Road was delighted to hear that she had gained her certificate for Dental Surgery Nurses in Dental Radiography and is now qualified to take dental Xrays for patients of the practice.
Laura, who is already a qualified dental nurse, worked very hard to pass the exam which involved taking Xrays for 50 patients, writing up case studies, then having a written and oral examination. Laura said ‘I was delighted to hear I had passed and I want to thank the dentists at the practice for training me to take Xrays – one of the reasons I joined Romsey Dental Care in 2008 was because of the positive and supportive ethos towards staff development.’ ‘Because we have high tech digital imaging including an oral scanner, the Xray images are instant and displayed on a screen in front of the patient which is great for patient care.’
