Our Achievements

At Romsey Dental Care we believe we have a wider responsibility to our local community than just providing dental care, so we get actively involved in charity or community events like cleaning the canal path or taking part in the XLP Research Trust Triathlon. We also welcome the opportunity to have our performance as a team and as a business objectively judged, whether by our patients or external judges. Recent events and awards we have been involved in include:

  • 2008 Test Valley Small Business Award – runner up
  • 2009 Test Valley Small Business Award – shortlisted
  • 2009 Test Valley Excellence Through People Business Award – runner up
  • 2009 Achieving the BDA Good Practice Award

July 2010 - (The Romsey Advertiser) - DENTAL JOY FOR MEGAN

Romsey girl Megan Pack was delighted to hear that she has qualified as a dental nurse with an NVQ Level 3 in Dental Nursing.  Megan, who is now 19, first joined Romsey Dental Care in Station Road at age 16, for work experience.  Megan said 'I knew straight away that dental nursing was the career for me and I really enjoy the job.  We do a lot of cosmetic dentistry and it is great to see the smile on the patient's face when they look in the mirror!'  Practice owner Samantha Price said ' I was so impressed with Megan's dedication and commitment at such a young age that when a vacancy for a trainee nurse came up I was delighted to be able to offer it to her.'  'Megan is a natural as a dental nurse and has developed so well in all her skills throughout the 2 years of her training.'

January 2010 - (The Romsey Advertiser) - LAURA'S GOT THE X-RAY FACTOR!

Dental Nurse Laura McGregor from Romsey Dental Care in Station Road was delighted to hear that she had gained her certificate for Dental Surgery Nurses in Dental Radiography and is now qualified to take dental Xrays for patients of the practice.

Laura, who is already a qualified dental nurse, worked very hard to pass the exam which involved taking Xrays for 50 patients, writing up case studies, then having a written and oral examination. Laura said ‘I was delighted to hear I had passed and I want to thank the dentists at the practice for training me to take Xrays – one of the reasons I joined Romsey Dental Care in 2008 was because of the positive and supportive ethos towards staff development.’  ‘Because we have high tech digital imaging including an oral scanner, the Xray images are instant and displayed on a screen in front of the patient which is great for patient care.’

October 2009 - (The Romsey Advertiser) ROMSEY DENTAL CARE ACHIEVES BDA GOOD PRACTICE AWARD

Staff at Romsey Dental Care in Station Road were delighted to hear that the practice has been awarded the prestigious British Dental Association Good Practice Award.

 Practice Manager Angela Ward commented:

‘Our patients have always known about the high standards we provide in every aspect of our care. The BDA Good Practice Award is a trusted quality mark that confirms this, which is especially important in the current economic climate when patients are rightly becoming more discerning. I am delighted that the hard work and commitment from the whole team has been recognised with the BDA Good Practice Award.’

July 2009 - (The Romsey Advertiser) - DENTAL DELIGHT!

Yana Marshall from Romsey Dental Care was delighted to hear that she had passed her National Certificate for Dental Nurses and is now a fully qualified dental nurse.  Yana worked very hard throughout the two years of her studies which culminated in a comprehensive examination in May involving written, oral and ‘spotter’ tests.  Yana said ‘it is a big relief to know that all the hard work paid off and I want to thank everyone at the practice for supporting me during my studies.  I really love my role as it is very rewarding to be closely involved in every aspect of the patients’ dental care and to see first hand the wonderful results that can be achieved’.

May 2009 (The Romsey Advertiser) - CHARITY TRIATHLON

Staff at Romsey Dental Care have raised more than £1700 for the XLP Research Trust by taking part in the town’s triathlon on Sunday. Swimmer Laura McGregor (dental nurse) runner Andy Hey (hygienist) and cyclist Samantha Price (dentist) were cheered all the way by their colleagues.

Practice manager Angela Ward said ‘The Hartley family are patients of the practice so we have been in touch with the ups and downs of the four boys who are all affected by this devastating illness. We are delighted to be able to support the XLP Research Trust so that they can provide research and support to help other affected families and it was an added bonus to hear that we had raised the most sponsorship.’

March 2009 (The Romsey Advertiser) - EXCELLENCE THROUGH PEOPLE

Staff at Romsey Dental Care in Station Road were delighted to hear that the practice has been shortlisted into the top three for one of the Test Valley Business Awards - the HSA Excellence Through People Award. Practice owner Samantha Price said ‘this is fantastic news, which is recognition for our team’s commitment to providing outstanding customer service. I believe that our continued success in the current challenging economic environment is due to great teamwork, investment in state-of-the-art technology for our patients’ benefit – during 2008 we invested over £50,000 - and also our extremely competitive prices. Last year we were delighted to be runners-up in the Small Business Award, so we have our fingers crossed for the final result on April 20th when the whole team will be at the Gala Dinner’ .

November 2008 (The Romsey Advertiser) - £50,000 INVESTMENT IN NEW TECHNOLOGY

Romsey Dental Care at 1 Station Road has invested £50,000 in new state-of-the-art dental chairs with multi-media centres that will allow patients to see their X-rays, scans and in-mouth live video images on special screens that form part of the actual dental chair units.

The practice was the first in the area to install instant digital X rays, one of the first in the country to have a digital OPG (or oral scanner) and the first fully digital dental practice in the region. “High quality images are not just important for diagnosis, with the new multi-media centres we can show patients very clearly where problems are developing, how to prevent them or why treatment is needed” said Principal Dentist Samantha Price. “We have been using intraoral cameras (which give live in-mouth video pictures) ever since we opened in Romsey 12 years ago. The new cameras are superb quality and the patient can now see the images, with their X-rays and scans in close-up, without leaving the dental chair.” During treatment patients can relax and watch ceiling-mounted flat screen TV.

Samantha decided that the previous equipment which is still in excellent condition and worth thousands of pounds per surgery, would not be sold but donated to the charity Dentaid. The equipment will go to health centres in the developing world. Samantha commented “I did feel sad to see our equipment go but it is very satisfying to know that it will be put to good use in the Third World.”

Samantha added “Closer to home we are aware that money is tight for many people in Romsey, so we have frozen our dental fees at the 2007 level.”

September 2008 – THE BIG TIDY UP and Launch of our Environmental Policy

Romsey Dental Care launched its environmental policy by taking part in ‘The Big Tidy Up’, a Keep Britain Tidy campaign, on 28th September 2008. We cleared rubbish from the forecourt of the disused building next door and then collected rubbish from along the canal walk in Romsey. In all, we collected 10 bags of rubbish, recycling as much of this as possible. Practice Owner Samantha Price said ‘Legislation forces dental practices to be quite wasteful; we want to show that it is possible for small businesses to offset their impact on the environment by making a positive contribution elsewhere.’ Samantha regularly cycles the 5 miles to work and other team members walk in, and as far as possible during the working day items are recycled and energy consumption is kept to a minimum. Romsey Dental Care’s electricity comes from a green supplier.

Romsey Dental Care has also undertaken an audit to identify as many ways as possible to minimise the environmental damage caused without compromising the high quality of clinical care provided.

April 2008 (The Romsey Advertiser) – SMALL BUSINESS AWARD

The staff at Romsey Dental Care and Cosmetic Clinic in Station Road were thrilled to hear that they have been nominated for the final of the Hampshire County Council Small Business of the Year award.

Over the past two years the team has successfully embraced the many changes required to keep at the forefront of technology and customer service. This has included full computerisation and expansion into supplying dental products over the internet. More recently, the team designed their own patient questionnaire to find out if they were meeting the practice vision and providing customer service that exceeds expectation.

Practice owner Samantha Price commented ‘It takes a lot of energy and commitment from everyone to ensure that the high standards we set ourselves are being met, and it is challenging to maintain that commitment. I am delighted that our customers have endorsed our ongoing success and it is wonderful to know that we have already been recognised as being in the top three small businesses in the area'.

February 2008 – Patient Questionnaire

We wanted to see what our patients really thought about the service we provide, so as a team we compiled a questionnaire which was completed by 100 random patients. There were questions about every aspect of our ‘patient journey’ from the way the telephone was answered through to the quality of dental care. We were delighted to find that we scored 97% ‘good’ or ‘excellent’ across all the questions, with one patient writing on his form ‘the best in Romsey.’!
